STICKERS!

My friends love getting stickers, just like I do! The funny thing is that they right away put the stickers on their nose or forehead!

Pumping water

My friends at Home of Love pump their water from a bore hole. This is a deep well. It's fun to pump the water and play in the water too!

Children's church

I went to children's church today - we met under a mango tree in the middle of a group of huts near the church. I didn't understand anything except my name when the teacher said my name. But I had fun being silly with my best friend!

Mosquito nets

We sleep under mosquito nets. Mosquitoes here carry malaria and there are lots of mosquitoes! We take medicine everyday to keep from getting malaria but we really don't like taking the pills! The pills don't stop mosquitoes from biting us, they just stop the disease that the mosquitoes can pass to us.

I can sleep anywhere!

Yes, I'm learning to be a good missionary kid (MK) - we were waiting for our ride, which can take hours!

Papaya "papay"

Mommy bought this papaya at the market today for 4000 shillings – that’s nearly $2. Isn’t it huge?! I’m not sure yet if I like papaya, but I guess I’ll find out!

The Acoli word for papaya is "papay."

Milk "cak"

Our milk comes in a big box that contains lots of paper cartons of milk. It doesn’t have to be in the fridge until it’s opened (which is good since we don’t have electricity to keep the fridge cold most of the time!).

The Acoli word for milk is "cak" (pronounced CHAK) - it makes me think of drawing on sidewalks with CHALK! :)
